The LP-640 is a newer version of the 1st generation Murcielago introduced in 2001: Bigger engine and more power (from 580hp to 640hp). The exterior also received a significant facelift; a more aggressively redesigned front and rear end with asymmetric side air intakes, more aerodynamically shaped side mirrors, redesigned LED lights and a new single-exit exhaust design integrated into the rear diffuser. The chassis was improved, the electronics were updated, the E-Gear transmission and the clutch were strengthened to better match the increased performance. The seats were also redesigned to provide more support and headroom, and the new audio system became part of the redesigned dashboard with gauges.

The car is very stable to drive even at higher speeds and the performance is stunning. If you've driven a smaller Lamborghini Gallardo, the Murcielago can't really be compared to the Gallardo in any way - a bit like comparing the Mercedes SL and the Mercedes SLR McLaren. In 2 gears, the top speed is already 152 km/h. The factory declares the LP-640's official top speed to be 340km/h, but owners around the world have reported speeds as high as 370km/h.
